Technology makes the modern world go round and it will play an even bigger role in the future – a future that the current generation must be well-equipped to face. To inspire greater interest in technology and its varied applications, KidZania Kuala Lumpur announces KidZ & Tech 2.0: The Future Rebooted with partners VR Lab Bhd, U Mobile Sdn Bhd, Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur and Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

From 16 May – 24 June 2017, daily interactive workshops and hands-on activities bring technology to life, in line with KidZania’s mission to help children “Learn Life Today”. These activities, powered by the programme partners, engage children and showcase technology in different ways:

> Virtual Reality with VR Lab Bhd: Using specially-designed goggles, children get to completely immerse themselves in a computer-generated, 3-dimensional 360-degree environment; with the help of an advanced control system, they get to touch and interact with items in this environment as though they are real.

> 360-degree Photo-Taking with U Mobile Sdn Bhd: Get creative with a smartphone – just remain in a single standing position and turn a full 360-degrees circle to take a great photo, which will be shared on the KidZania Kuala Lumpur Facebook page! Choose from Street View, Surround Shot or use the Photo Sphere mode.

> Augmented Reality Colouring: Bridge the gap between static pages and animated characters – children can watch their colouring sheet come alive beyond the page with a smartphone/tablet app.
> Coding: Children will be guided to build their own Star Wars galaxy with code and to design their own game, such as programming BB-8 to collect scrap metal using blocks or Javascript…all in the span of 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, on weekends, children get to enjoy two additional activities – the family-friendly Mystery Skype on weekends where a mystery caller will provide clues for children and parents so they can guess the identity of the caller; and sessions on Kahoot!, the popular learning game, where children will get to test their knowledge on KidZania Kuala Lumpur.

Mayor of KidZania Kuala Lumpur Shahrul NIzar Ahmad during the launch of KidZ & Tech 2.0: The Future Rebooted recently.

“Our children have grown up with all the convenience of technology, but for most of them, their exposure is mostly limited to entertainment. At KidZania Kuala Lumpur, we see technology as an important educational tool so with KidZ & Tech 2.0: The Future Rebooted we want to channel children’s familiarity with technology by introducing positive and interesting ways in which technology can be used for learning,” said Shahrul Nizar Ahmad, Mayor of KidZania Kuala Lumpur.

“With our KidZ & Tech 2.0: The Future Rebooted partners VR Lab Bhd, U Mobile Sdn Bhd, Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur and Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, we hope to trigger greater interest in tech among our young visitors.”

Kimball Offers Simple, Wholesome Yet Tasty Sahur Meal Solutions for Busy Mums!

Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims, when it is required to fast from sunrise to sunset.
It is also a time when Malay mothers can be at their busiest, as they juggle their daily household duties and careers, while fitting in Sahur preparations in the wee hours of the morning for their loved ones.

For first time mums who are new to preparing Sahur meals for kids there are also concerns if the prepared meal provides enough energy for the kids to get through the day, does it appeal to picky eaters and most pressingly, will it be ready, on the table and eaten before Sahur is over.

Kimball, a Malaysian culinary solutions brands with a heritage of over 40 years, understands the challenges of Malay mums, including waking up early to prepare meals during Ramadan, and has set out to provide meal solutions that will free-up time, add more taste while being affordable, so that mums can spend more time with their families.
Chef Rohani Jelani (Picture) understands the challenges mums face during Ramadan and the need to come out with simple, hassle-free recipes that can be prepared the night before.

Being a mother, Chef Rohani understands the need to come out with simple, hassle-free recipes that can be prepared the night before, which leaves cooking and plating to be done in the morning for convenience.

These recipes are specially created using Kimball products, ranging from rice, pasta to bread based dishes, such as the all-time favorite Kimball Stuffed French Toast, the ever-convenient Kimball One-Pot Hainanese Chicken Rice, the tasty yet simple Kimball Angel Hair with Chicken Mushroom Sauce, the traditional standby of Kimball Spicy Tomato Fried Rice and the power-packed, bite-sized Kimball Chicken BBQ Bun, all of which are hearty meals to fuel the family throughout the day.

The Kimball culinary solutions add to the wholesomeness and convenience of the dishes, for example using Kimball Angel Hair pasta instead of wet noodles is more nutritious, filling and healthier.

“I created these recipes to be simple and that they can be prepared the night before, and they taste just as good when heated up in the morning,” Chef Rohani said.

“I will definitely be using these Kimball recipes during Ramadan. Pn Rohani’s recipes are excellent because all the one pot meals save a lot of cooking and cleaning up time. My family’s are the Kimball One-Pot Hainanese Chicken Rice and the Kimball BBQ Chicken Buns. The Kimball sauces used definitely add to the flavor, and cut down on the prepping time as well,” she said.

Bhd., Kimball understands the challenges faced by Malay mums, especially when preparing Sahur meals during Ramadan. The brand has developed these simple, wholesome and tasty recipes to give mums more times with their families, by freeing up time spent in the kitchen.

“For example, the Kimball Spicy Tomato Fried Rice can be prepared speedily. It is a wholesome meal, containing source of carbohydrate, protein, vitamins & minerals. And what is good is that all the Kimball Sahur meals that we created can easily feed a family of five for just RM15 or less.” Said Ms Lee.

The ever-convenient Kimball One-Pot Hainanese Chicken Rice is easy to prepare for Sahur, and will surely be a family favorite.
For working mother of three, Pn Nur Yusnizah Yushof, Ramadan is joyous time where she can model good spiritual values for her children, but she finds that time management is the biggest challenge especially in getting Sahur meals ready. She generally cooks Sahur meals at home, because she has the peace-of-mind that meals are to the taste of her family, and provide the nutrition and energy that her family needs to complete their fast.

“My daughters are 14 and 12, and have been fasting for the past few years. Meal preparation for my eldest daughter’s first Sahur was really stressful for me because I wanted to give her appetizing food that would sustain her throughout the day. I didn’t sleep the night, and even had bought take-away just in case I couldn’t get

the meal done on time. Insha’Allah, all went well. That’s why I’m always on the lookout for simple, hassle-free recipes for Sahur,” Pn Nur Yusnizah shared.

Understanding the challenges mums face during Ramadan especially in the meal preparation for Sahur, Kimball that has a wide range of sauces, pasta sauce and dry pasta has, teamed up with Chef Rohani Jelani to develop five simple and tasty Sahur recipes that cost around RM15 each that can feed a family of five.

An expert’s advice by Dr. Wong Su-Ming, understanding the sun’s effect on your skin
Did you know that the skin uses sunlight to help manufacture vitamin D, which is important for normal bone formation? But, you’re probably more aware that sun exposure or ultraviolet light can be very detrimental to your skin. That said, when thinking about sun exposure, you might see yourself getting a suntan on the beach or exercising outdoors. Little did you know though, that we receive a large portion of our sun exposure when we’re in our cars.

Ultraviolet Rays: Your Skin’s Worst Nightmare
Within the skin’s outer layer (known as the epidermal), are cells that contain pigment melanin. Melanin serves to protect the skin from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays. While these rays are “invisible”, they’re extremely dangerous.

Over time, prolonged exposure to UV rays can burn the skin thereby causing sunburn. Sun damage can also lead to wrinkles, freckles, leathering, sagging, brown “age” spots, and in some cases skin cancer. There are three types of UV rays:

a) UVA are the most constant year-round and penetrates into the deeper layers of the skin. It is responsible for the immediate tanning effect and is also known as “UV Aging rays” as they cause long term skin damage and photo-aging (premature ageing, wrinkles and sun spots).

b) UVB cannot penetrate beyond the superficial skin layers but is responsible for delayed tanning and burning. Most UVB is filtered by the atmosphere and is often referred to as “UV Burning rays”. UVB rays are the common cause of most skin cancers.

c) UVC is the strongest and deadliest of solar rays, however the ozone layer stops these from reaching the Earth.

When UV rays penetrate the outer skin layers and pass into the deeper layers, your skin cells can either be damaged or killed.

Sun Exposure while Driving
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, dermatologists have observed for years now; that patients often have more sun damage on the left side of their faces as compare to the right. Why? Research increasingly points to UVA radiation penetrating through car windows.

UV exposure is cumulative, and research has proven that skin exposed to sun shining through window glass, even in the office or at home, can over time lead to significant skin damage. So, take some time to think about the UV exposure we receive while driving or being in a car. In a research published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, it is found that those who spent more time driving a vehicle had more severe photo-damage on the left side of their faces. Reinforcing this research, in countries where drivers drive on the right side, people tend to develop more sun damage and skin pre-cancers on the right.

Sun Safety in your Car
The best way to protect your skin from the sun is by using products with a high SPF daily. SPF stands for “sun protection factor” and is a multiplier which tells you how much longer you can stay in the sun without burning when wearing a sunscreen, for example. Suppose your skin naturally starts to burn in 20 minutes. When you use a sunscreen with an SPF of 15, you won’t begin to burn for 5 hours – 15 times longer.

While you can choose to apply sunscreen in the car, the Skin Cancer Foundation also recommends window film as the single best safeguard against UV damage. In cars, research has shown that UV damage is more extensive on the side of the body closer to the window but fortunately, there are automotive films that deliver superior heat rejection, with the ability to block UV rays.

Don't forget to visit the blog post on where you can find the 3M Malaysia tours in Klang Valley

About 3M™ Crystalline AutoFilm
The 3M™ Crystalline series AutoFilm features a proprietary, multilayer optical film that combines over 200 layers of nano-technology in a film that is thinner than a Post-it® Note. This unique technology is the reason a clear film can reject more heat than many darker films. Designed to deliver superior heat rejection capabilities, the Crystalline series improves your in-car comfort by rejecting up to 97% of the sun’s Infrared rays and rejects up to 60% of the solar heat coming through your windows.

It also offers sun protection by blocking up to 99.9% of harmful UV rays to provide a total SPF of over 1,000 for you and your passengers. The Crystalline series is a U.S. Skin Cancer Foundation recommended product. The non-metallized window film also allows you to stay connected with uninterrupted mobile service, GPS or satellite radio reception.

A woman’s body’s fertile signs

She may not be sensitive enough to notice it, but a woman’s body will give a woman signs that she is fertile and can easily get pregnant. So what signs are we looking for when it comes to knowing our body’s fertile signs?

1. Basal body temperature
A woman’s body temperature can be tracked using a basal body thermometer. A woman may chart her fertility to tell the changes of her body every day before you even get out of bed. When a woman is fertile, she will be able to see a spike in her temperature in the chart. This means she’s possibly fertile and going to ovulate soon.

2. Cervical mucus
The so-called egg white cervical mucus is the most fertile of all CM types because it allows the sperm to swim easily into the cervix. Its consistency is similar to raw egg whites and it can stretch an inch or two without breaking in the middle. This is another sign that you are fertile.

- Greenview Islamic School’s one-of-a-kind approach to education receives shining recognition -
Greenview Islamic School recently received its first The BrandLaureate award when it was named the Best in International Islamic Education at The BrandLaureate Corporate SME Awards 2016. The award was accepted by Muhammad Azman bin Tan Sri Hamzah, School Director of Greenview Islamic School, and was a milestone in the journey of the school since it was founded in 2010.

Over the years, Greenview Islamic School has become a reputable brand name in Malaysia’s International Islamic education sector. With growing competition, the school continues to differentiate itself from its competitors through placing equal emphasis on academic education, character development, and spiritual strengthening.

“From our humble beginnings, we have channelled our resources towards creating thinking and caring global citizens, and our success in accomplishing that, is the reason for this recognition. This award is dedicated to the parents, and students who work tirelessly towards making their dreams come true and we are ever grateful to them for choosing us as their gateway to the future,” said F. S. A. Majeed, Principal of Greenview Islamic School.

The school’s growth from just four students and six teachers to reaching almost 500 students in just over five years, with limited promotional and marketing efforts, was possible thanks to its curriculum that focuses on enhancing a student’s ability to critically think, communicate effectively, be creative, and build an excellent character. This approach led to the formation of an extensive network of satisfied parents who endorse the efficacy of the school’s approach and recommend it to others.

F. S. A. Majeed added, “Via learning methods such as positive reinforcement learning, we aim to produce highly qualified practicing Muslims who will make positive contributions to Malaysia’s progress as well as becoming active members of the global community.”

Greenview Islamic School offers a wide variety of courses for students from Year 1 to Year 11, with both curricular and extra-curricular activities that contribute to a student’s holistic development. Using positive reinforcement learning, students are inspired to develop self-discipline, and take pride in their own school work, studies, and personal growth.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs form a crucial facet of the school’s business as giving back to society is a vehemently held value. Its initiatives include, awarding financial discounts for potential filled students who have financial difficulties, and providing special care and support to students with special needs.

Those looking to find out more about Greenview Islamic School can visit their branches at either Bukit Jelutong or Bangi and speak to a representative from 8:30am to 12:30pm from Mondays to Thursdays and 8:30am to 12:00pm on Fridays.

World Kidney Day 2017 Event in Putrajaya for ‘Healthy Lifestyle, Healthy Kidneys’

Malaysian Society of Nephrology invites the public to join the fun cycling and walk event.

The World Kidney Day 2017 (WKD17) is an annual event and this year’s focus is on healthy lifestyle to prevent obesity as obesity can lead to chronic kidney disease. Obesity remains the number one preventable risk factor for chronic kidney disease because obesity largely mediates diabetes and hypertension, the 2 most common etiologies for end-stage kidney disease1. Overweight and obese people are also more prone to develop albuminuria and, for at least some types of kidney disease, a greater amount of albuminuria and more rapid progression of renal failure. Apart from that, obesity also leads to high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, arthritis and other serious health problems2.

According to WKD17 organising chair, Dr Lily Mushahar, senior consultant nephrologist, Hospital Tuanku Jaafar, one of the more effective ways of making Malaysians slim down to a healthier weight is through proper education, exposure and awareness. Dr Lily said that eating has become a part of our local culture. Our local food, especially those with high calorie content is one of the contributing factors to the high prevalence of obesity amongst Malaysians.

“We are a multicultural nation with a wide selection of delicious delicacies. However, most of these foods are usually made up of glutinous rice, coconut milk with a high content of sugar. What we can do is to educate everyone on this epidemic and create awareness for a better, healthier lifestyle through this national level World Kidney Day 2017 on the 18th of March, with the Cycling Convoy flagging off from Hospital Serdang to Taman Botani, Fun Run, Zumba and a lot more activities that promote and encourage healthy lifestyle. This year’s WKD17 celebration is special as it started off with a group of 30 cyclists pedalled 633KM from Kangar to Putrajaya over 6 days – all in a bid to raise awareness regarding the importance of healthy lifestyle, exercise to combat obesity and kidney diseases! The journey involves 16 pit stops where the 30 cyclists will spread health messages and collect signatures on a banner, which will be officially given to the Deputy Health Minister on the 18th of March at Putrajaya during the official launce of WKD17 celebration. ” said Dr Lily.

Major private companies such as Lucenxia, Baxter, Fresenius, Sanofi, Kyowa Kirin, Roche and AJ Pharma are also helping to promote and sponsor the event.

“This program is very interesting because not only will there be fun and healthy activities that everyone can participate, but there will also be a talk on kidney health awareness and how to take care of them. Being obese is very closely linked to chronic kidney diseases which can be prevented if more people are aware of their unhealthy eating habits and their sedentary urban lifestyle that lacks exercise,” added Dr Lily.

There will be free health screening including measurement of body mass index, blood glucose level and blood pressure measurement. There will also be various booths promoting health, outdoor activity equipment and a blood donation campaign at Taman Botani Putrajaya this March 18, 2017.

According to the findings by World Health Organization, about 600 million of the world population were overweight and about 41 million of children under the age of 5 years are either overweight or obese3.

Revealed recently by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, obese Malaysians make up 17.7 percent while the ones that are overweight make up about 30 percent, bringing the percentage to 47.7 percent in total. Statistically, Malaysia is the most obese country in Asia and the officials blame it on the high calorie diet and sedentary urban lifestyle4. The health minister has also warned that the country is in the midst of obesity epidemic.

Jessie Chung Possibly Disfigured in Terrifying Accident

Jessie Chung Possibly Disfigured in Terrifying Accident
Jessie Chung, who took the opportunity during Chinese New Year to return to her hometown Kuching, originally planned to hold a press conference for her new album on February 2nd and a launching show at Kuching’s Boulevard Shopping Mall on February 9th. However, during a badminton match on February 1st, Jessie’s partner accidentally hit her on the bridge of her nose near the eye. Blood immediately gushed from the open wound and her nostrils, and she was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment. Her wound finally stopped bleeding after a grueling six hours. Now Jessie has to limit her movements due to the severe wound, she even has trouble talking and eating as those minor activities would lead to immense pain and bleeding.

Before the time of this writing, Jessie’s conditions were still unstable. She felt dizzy and had no appetite. The doctor states that Jessie needs to stay in the hospital for further observations, fearing that she got a concussion after falling down. As a result, Vernon Tee, one of the male lead actors of the Music Box stage play, attended the press conference in Kuching on February 2nd, 2017 as spokesman.

Local reporters who found out about the accident upon arriving at the press conference were very concerned of and worried by Jessie’s injury, some even emotionally shouted that the person responsible for the accident should be brought to justice.

It is understood that the interview at Cats FM that was originally scheduled on February 4th, 2017 is forced to be cancelled. As for the launching show at Kuching’s Boulevard Shopping Mall, it is uncertain at this point whether the show will proceed or not. Jessie Chung, whose schedule is currently jam-packed, may be forced to delay her activities, including her Be Strong World Tour, Music Box Stage Play, concert in Genting, new web TV series “Jessie Rock Show”, and future developments in China and Australia, due to her injury.
